The months keep rolling by and it is time yet again for the SRC club, where bloggers secretly make a great recipe from an assigned member of the club’s blog. Then, we all share our posts at a link party on a set day and time to reveal who had who. This month my assigned blog was Alli-n-sons.
Alli has a great sense of humor and blogs about motherhood, boys and baking. It was hard deciding between making her easy pizza sauce and her blueberry oatmeal smoothie. But, in the end it is summer and has been feeling like it is almost a thousand degrees outside around here, so the smoothie sounded just perfect. I had recently seen a blueberry avocado smoothie and was totally intrigued. So, I made Alli’s recipe, but instead of using 1 banana, I used 1 avocado.
To make the smoothie frozen blueberries are blended with avocado, milk, yogurt and oats for a refreshing beverage. The smoothie is very rich and creamy and not very sweet. If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, you may wish to add a few teaspoons of raw honey. Next time I think I’ll double the berries for a stronger blueberry flavor. Thanks for a delicious recipe, Alli!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, preferably chemical free as blueberries are on the dirty dozen (use 1 cup for a stronger berry flavor)
- 1 avocado (if you LOVE avocados check out chocolate avocado pudding)
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/4 cup oats
Instructions
- Put oats in blender and blend until oats are finely blended.
- Add remaining ingredients and blend on high until no chunks remain. Pour into 2 glasses and serve.

This smoothie sounds incredibly wonderful. I do enjoy a sweeter smoothie but regardless of that, the avocado and blueberry combination sounds absolutely heavenly. I am definitely intrigued and am thinking today might be a good day for these yummy smoothies.
I just found out that you can freeze avocados so I plan on stocking up on my next grocery run. I will be trying this soon! It looks delicious.
How interesting to put avocado in a smoothie! It looks very pretty!
Can you taste the avocado? I know it’s good for you, but I don’t really like them. If I could disguise the flavor in a smoothie, I’d totally go for it, though!
I think that if you dot like avocado that you may not like it as it does have a bit of an avocado flavor. If you double the berries you may not taste the avocado.
I never thought to use avocado in a smoothie. Does it alter the flavor at all?
It does taste different than a plain berry smoothie. Next time I am going to double the amount of berries for a stronger berry flavor and we’ll see what happens. Thanks for the inspiration, Alli :)
