Having an ice cream maker opens up a magical world of ice cream flavor possibilities. We just got a Hamilton Beach 1-1/2-Quart Ice Cream Maker not long ago and it is awesome!
This blueberry chocolate chunk ice cream is a combo of fresh blueberries, grass-fed cream and bits of 70% dark chocolate. It contains no refined sweeteners and is simply sweetened with pure, grade b maple syrup. It is absolutely delicious and amazing straight out of the ice cream maker… perfect for a hot summer day!
Ingredients
- 1 cup blueberries (defrost first if using frozen berries)
- 1/4 cup grade b maple syrup
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup whole milk (or heavy cream)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (make your own vanilla extract!)
- 1/2 tablespoon arrowroot powder (optional)
- 1 ounce 70% dark chocolate chopped up (or chocolate of your choice)
Instructions
- Process berries in a food processor until they are well blended.
- Add remaining ingredients (except for the chocolate) and mix until combined.
- Pour mixture into ice cream maker and process according to manufacturer's directions. Add the chocolate pieces when the mixture is almost done processing in the ice cream maker.

Hey Katie, Can’t wait to make this! In my experience, I don’t know if I would add the chocolate chips until the very end. I added them once at the beginning and it almost broke my machine, the chocolate stuck to the sides of my ice cream maker making it very difficult to allow the machine to function properly. Maybe this isn’t an issue because you put them in a food processor, just wanted to bring up my experience :) Can NOT wait to try this!!! Looks amazing! Thanks
Halle- thanks for bringing that to my attention. I did add the chips at the end and have updated the recipe. Have a great day!
This sounds delicious! I love using maple syrup as my ice cream sweetener. I’m pinning this to my Ice Cream board! :)
Looks delightful! I don’t know how I would make it through my summer (or winter for that matter) without ours!
We just got ours and are definitely loving it :)
It looks so delicious!!!
I am drooling over this homemade ice cream! Blueberries and chocolate sound wonderful together. Thank you for sharing this recipe on Allergy-Free Wednesdays.
My pleasure. Thanks, Laura!
