The other day we were headed over to a party and I had offered to bring a veggie tray. I could have brought Black Bean Hummus, {Easy & Quick} Fresh Veggie Dip, Black Bean Dip, or even Slow Cooker Hummus, but I wanted to make something different to use up some of the fresh basil that is overtaking the pots on the porch.
This basil dip is made with sour cream, lots of fresh basil, dill, a few other herbs and just a splash of lemon juice to balance the creaminess from the sour cream. You could substitute yogurt for part of the sour cream if you’d like. This recipe certainly turned out to be a winner and several people at the party commented on how much they enjoyed the dip. If you’ve got 5 minutes, then it is certainly worth it to make a homemade dip. The flavor is so much better and you avoid all the additives found in a pre made dip.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sour cream
- 1 tablespoon chopped, fresh parsley (or 1 t dry)
- 1/4 teaspoon dried dill weed
- 1/2 teaspoon each: onion powder and garlic powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4-1/2 cup fresh basil, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl and chill until you are ready to serve.

We have six basil plants thriving in my herb garden and I’m always on the lookout for basil recipes. Can’t wait to try this one!
What a great mix of herbs! No wonder it was so well loved. I’ll keep it in my back pocket until I get home from holidays to try out on the hubby!
planning to make this but, i’ll be using the fresh dill, green onion and garlic I am getting from our CSA along with the basil :)
This post caught my eye on Keep it Real Thursday because I also have basil overwhelming the pot outside my door. Looking forward to trying this! And totally pinned it.
Hope you enjoy the dip, Steph!
Served it up at a party and it was delicious! Tasted even better the next day. Thanks for the recipe.
Used plain yogurt instead of sour cream, and it works great with like Greek Yogurt or plain yogurt that’s been strained through a cheesecloth or coffee filter for a few hours.
Great! Glad you all liked it, Steph :)
Looks simple and delicious — a recipe for crowd-pleasing success. Thanks for sharing!
That would be nice change up to the traditional veggie tray dips!!!
