It isn’t officially summer yet, but it is really starting to feel like it here in the bluegrass state! This awesome pudding recipe is made in the blender so that there is no cooking required. Yay :) And, the dangerous part is that you can whip this up in a a matter of minutes. Avocado helps give this recipe its thick and creamy texture, but don’t worry if you’re not a fan of avocado. You can’t even taste it!
I love avocados, they are really fabulous to me. They taste great plus they are so healthy for you! Avocados:
- help lower cholesterol.
- are full of folate that contributes to heart health
- improve nutrient absorption when eaten with other foods
- are chock full of vitamin E, which promotes overall health (read more benefits)
I could go on and on but the point is that they are so good for you. Certain members of the house here don’t like avocado and so they were skeptical when I said it was chocolate avocado pudding. But, upon tasting it said member admitted that if I hadn’t told him that there was avocado he wouldn’t even have realized it and that he thought the pudding tasted just like normal pudding. This is a definite keeper and will be added to the must make again recipe files.
Top it with slivered, crispy almonds…
Or even homemade whipped cream. Either way it’s chocolately deliciousness! My little guy asked if it was from a container and I said no. His reply, ”Whoa, you make good pudding! You should make it again!”
Ingredients
- 1 avocado, soft and ripe
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup grade b maple syrup
- 6 tablespoons milk (coconut, cow or any type of milk you prefer)
Instructions
- Cut avocado in half and remove pit. Scoop out flesh and put in in the blender along with remaining ingredients.
- Process until smooth, occasionally scraping down sides. Serve immediately or refrigerate until you're ready to serve.

I don’t need any excuse to eat avocados, but this looks like a delicious and super healthy sweet treat. Can’t wait to give it a try!
Thanks, Kim!
I’ve tasted this awesome dish before and am sold on it. Thanks for the reminder – you make everything look so inviting & tasty! =)
That is so sweet, thanks! It really is delicious and I never would’ve come up with the combo on my own.
I can’t wait to try this. I just bought 10 avocado. I’ll save a few ripe ones for this!
Hope you enjoy it! I know we did:)
I’ll have to be brave and try that! What exactly is “grade b” maple syrup? Probably a silly question!
Thanks,
Mary Beth

No, Mary Beth. It isn’t silly. Grade b is darker, has a stronger flavor and is supposed to be more rich in nutrients. You can easily use grade a instead if you prefer it or already have it on hand.
Thanks for sharing! I am a sucker for all recipes with avocado. I recently discovered the joy of avocado nutella. I’ll give this pudding a try for sure. I like that it has fewer ingredients than the nutella, which can be stored in a jelly jar in the fridge for a week or made into a non-dairy shake. I bet that would be good with the pudding too!
I am going to have to check out your nutella recipe, Justine. I LOVE nutella and haven’t had it in ages!
YUMMY! That looks awesome! I’m always looking for healthy substitutes in recipes, I will try this for sure!

I love making this pudding. I’ve made the same recipe before (think I found it in a magazine, maybe?). My husband really likes it too. A keeper for sure. Glad you could share it with your readers.
It is tasty! Whoever originally came up with it is a genius in my book :)
Oh, Yummy!
But I don’t feel like sharing my avocados with my crew! LOL!
Thanks for sharing!
I totally wouldn’t blame you for not wanting to share your avocados :) It is always my pleasure to share recipes. Thanks for stopping in and hope you have a blessed day!
My husband and I loved this!! Thank you for posting. Loving your website.
Thanks, Marianne. So glad you enjoyed it!
My 6 year old didn’t care for this, but I thought it was yummo! Although I did cut down on the maple syrup a bit just to save calories :)
I love avacados but sometimes get them with brown spots inside and throw them away. Is it safe to eat these brown spots?
Those are just bruises. Cut them out and the rest of it it is fine.
Dear katie,
I’m not an avocado lover but I’d love to try your recipe. I do however have a problem; I’m in Portugal and we don’t have maple syrup. Do you recomend any alternative? Thanx.
Honey would work fantastic as well. Thanks for stopping in have a blessed day :)
Dear Katie,
Just lo let you know that I’ve tried the recipe with honey like you sugested.
I believe I’m going to become an avocado lover :)
Loved the recipe. Sweet, smooth and fresh.
Thank you.
Thanks for letting me know, Nuno. So glad to hear that you enjoyed the pudding :)
Looks amazing! Thanks for using maple syrup :-) so much easier than needing to estimate how to replace the sugar I’ve seen in other chocolate avocado pudding recipes!
My pleasure, Stephanie. Love chocolate pudding :)
This is a favorite at our house– we make it often!
It is definitely yummy and on the nourishing side for a treat:)
Think I just might try this out this weekend….could be one way to get my hubby to eat avocado since he loves chocolate. ;o)
Super awesome flavor and hubby didn’t even notice the avocado.
Yay! My hubby isn’t a fan of avocado either, but loved this pudding:) So glad to hear that you all enjoyed the pudding, Tami!
OK, this is too good to be true!! Haha!! I have been looking for a recipe to do just this… avocados are too good for us not to use more than a little! I would like to feature this tomorrow on the ‘EOA’ Wednesday link-up!! Thanks, Katie!!
You’re too kind. Thanks :)
Thanks so much for linking this up to Deep Roots at Home. This is a great recipe for my allergic child. He loves chocolate but can’t have dairy. Most chocolate things contain dairy. I’ll make this tomorrow for his birthday!
Blair, I hope that your little guy enjoys it! I imagine that it must be difficult to find good recipes for him. Hope he has a happy birthday :)
I do ad matching and this week I can get 6 avocados for $1! So I’m all over this like white on rice.
Found you via DeepRootsAtHome.com

Wow! Awesome deal! I’m totally jealous :) Thanks for coming by and have a blessed day, Melinda!
Thanks for sharing the amazing recipe! It was delicious! I added a banana to mine for a little change in flavor and it was so good! I’m addicted to this now :)
Great! Glad you loved it :) Thanks for the feedback, Suzanna.
I’ve made something like this chocolatey avocado dessert, too, and it’s great, nobody knows there’s nasty, wholesome avocado in there:) Love the cups you serve it in!
Thanks, Christine. Have a blessed day!
Just made some. I may or may not have eaten the whole thing. By myself. And licked the food processor bowl.
Avocados are good for us, right? :)
Thanks so much for this recipe! I don’t like avocados, generally, but my nutritionist told me I should add them into my diet for better, healthier fats. I started by adding 1/4 avocado into my chocolate protein shake. I was amazed that I couldn’t taste it! Now a friend shared this recipe with me and I’m excited to try it. I’m all for adding healthier ingredients for me and my family….without tasting it! :-) Thank you again!
You’re very welcome, Lori! Glad you enjoyed it :)
I’m a college student who tries to keep a healthy diet, and this is the perfect recipe for when my sweet tooth needs a fix. I had all the ingredients in my apartment, and it was quick and easy. Not to mention delicious. Love this website!
This looks and sounds delicious! Is the cocoa powder sweetened or unsweetened?
It is unsweetened.
Thanks for this recipe! I’m excited to try it out on my unsuspecting children. Perhaps I’ll serve it as a “treat” for breakfast, which is usually their least nutritious meal on a school day. I’ll even add some coconut oil for good measure! They don’t have to know what’s in it ’til they’re older. hahaha…
He he… That sounds like my kind of plan, Michelle. Hope they enjoy their treat :)
Ok Katie, YOU ROCK. I LOVE your chocolate Avocado pudding, love love love it. I’ve recently started a vegan diet and it’s great to find delicious and healthy desserts that I can have. I’m going to have to check out more of your recipes for sure. Thanks
You are welcome!
I just made this, and it blew my mind! Was going to use it as a way to get some heart healthy avocado into the hubby’s diet, but now I’m thinking of hiding it so he can’t see it! Okay, I guess I’ll share.
Thanks for the recipe!
You’re welcome, Cassandra :)
Tried it and it was not for me. I prefer the raw date choc pudding myself. This version was really bitter. I had to pour honey and cinnamon into the individual servings just to get it down.
I love avocados, but I’ve never tried them in anything sweet. What a healthy way to make an indulgent treat.
I love this recipe!!!! I just made it so tasty. I use agave to sweeten and it is great with that also. I like it with roasted coconut chips on top. i also use coconut milk to keep it vegan. Thanks for a quick delicious pudding recipe!
Yum! Never mind guac, I’m stocking up on avocados during Superbowl Season to make PUDDING! For breakfast! XD
I saw a recipe similar to this a while ago and forgot about it. This is a good reminder for me to make it! My children are now requesting it after seeing this page open on the computer. Looks like avacados will be in the cart the next time we go to the store!
I tried this and like it was so bitter. I used honey in place of maple syrup, but in the quantity listed above. Then, I added more honey, but to no avail. I even tried adding some powered sugar, but u didn’t want to add more than 2 tbsp of that, so I drew the line there. All the same, bitter. The avocado was ripe, no bruises, soft, don’t know where I went wrong
Delish!! loved it! thank you for this vegan dessert option :) Ann
You’re very welcome!
