I’ve finally found the ultimate secret of how to mix peanut butter easily so that you only have to do it once and then your peanut butter will be nice and ready to spread for the rest of the jar. If you’ve ever bought the natural nut butter then you know all about the issues of trying to mix it. I’ve always struggled with trying to get it smooth without having the oil come out all over the sides of the jar to make a big mess. Then, every time you use it, it seems that it has gotten clumpy again so that it requires more stirring and by the time you get to the bottom of the jar the peanut butter that is left is thick and not easily spreadable. It is really the little things in life that make me happy, like only having to mix the peanut butter once.
All you need to do is use a spatula and put all the peanut butter and oil into a mixing bowl. Make sure you clean out the jar really well so that everything gets nicely incorporated.
Blend it using your hand mixer (or food processor) on medium speed and once you think it is really nicely blended, blend it just a little bit longer.
Now you’re ready to return the peanut butter to its original jar, or whatever container you want and you’ll have nice smooth peanut butter for the rest of the jar. No more mixing required! :) Time to break out the peanut butter recipes!

What’s your favorite way to eat peanut butter?

What a great idea! You touched on all the issues and now a solution! Thank you!
Happy, Healthy New Year!
I got a great tip from a lady at Trader Joes too….if you store your jar upside down in your cupboard before you open it, it makes stirring it up WAY easier. Worked like a charm as well!
Doh@! What an easy idea, I too struggle with that….infact I avoid Natural PB for that reason
Absolutely! I dump it all in the blender, actually (I have a Blendtec) and in 15-20 seconds everything is all creamed up. I've been doing that for a month or so and I can't believe I didn't think of it before.
I hit on this once after I already ruined my sweater with the oil. Wish I had known beforehand!
What a great post! Love this idea…trying it today!
Thanks. Hope you enjoy your creamy PB as much as we have :)

I have ruined clothes with the oil too. Once I tried using one blender piece to mix it in the jar and that was not a pretty picture…

Great tip- I usually end up with really dry peanut butter at the bottom of the jar which would be avoided if I did this. Thanks! Happy New Year! :)
Brilliant! I always dread opening a new jar and half the oil spills out – you know how it goes. Thanks so much for sharing. I have a new jar I'll be opening in the next few days and I can't wait to try this.
Thanks, Debra! It was a great solution to me. I always hated opening a new jar and dealing with that oily mess. Hope it helps you too!

Perfect. I'm always bummed (or in a rush) when I have to open a new jar. This sounds quick and easy.
I hate stirring it in the jar – now I'll start dumping and mixing! Thanks for the fantastic tip!
We've really enjoyed this new method of only mixing once. Hope it proves helpful in your kitchen, Michele!

My sister uses a blender hook on their electric drill right in the jar! Since that option isn't currently available to me, I'll definitely being trying yours. Thank you!
Fun trick Katie. It is so frustrating trying to mix up a new jar of natural nut butters with all the oils at the top. How would you like to share this tip with the readers at beyond the peel, tomorrow at Whole Food Wednesdays? We'd love your support! Have a great day and I hope your start to the New Year is going well.
Thanks for the invitation, France. I will try to remember to come by :)

Stopping by from Made By You Monday…
This is such a great idea; I can't believe I have never thought of this. Mixing peanut butter is one of my biggest pet peeves. Not anymore!!
Great tip! Thank you!
Great tip! I always dread opening a new jar of PB because I just don't like mixing it up. I'll have to give this a try! Thanks!
Yep. Works great. I, too, always dread having to start a new jar of peanut butter because I have to mix it up (and make a big mess). I have tried putting it in a bowl and mixing it up by hand as well as mixing it up in the food processor. Both work, but the hand mixer idea has been the least messing option that I've used so far. Still a little messy to clean up (and it always kind of bothers me that I lose some of the pb on the mixer blades, sides of the bowl, and rubber scraper), but I think it's the best plan. I have been trying to coordinating opening and mixing up a new jar of pb with making hummus or something else that requires pb. Then, after mixing up the pb and returning it to its jar, I use the bowl and mixing blades to mix up the second recipe, thus incorporating the "lost" pb into the 2nd recipe. Thanks so much for the idea!!!
Awesome tip!
thinkt he vitamix would work? probably hard to get it all back out..

Beth- that is great to incorporate the PB into another recipe by double tasking. I give the mixers to my little boy to lick :)

I've never made peanut butter from scratch, but when I do I will definitely use this tip! Thank you for sharing this post with the Hearth and Soul hop.
Great idea! Oil spilling everywhere is such a downer!
Actually, this peanut butter is the Smuckers natural brand.

This is genius on top of genius. First off, the mixing – what a great idea. And then using a drill instead of the hand mixer so I can just use one blade? I'm having to restrain myself from doing it right now (nearly midnight).
We started eating Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter years ago and hated mixing it and making a mess until I saw an advertisement for their online store on the top. We ordered their mixer for $10 and have used it ever since. The money is well worth it and makes mixing a snap. It comes with a screw on lid and a dasher and handle that you turn for a minute or so. You then take that off and put the original lid back on. It stays mixed and no spills and it’s done right in the jar! To order go to onlinestore.smucker.com and click on Smuckers on the left hand column. Scroll down until you see the Natural Peanut Butter Mixer.
Interesting! I didn’t even realize such a thing existed. Thanks for the FYI, Sandra!
This is what I do as well! We buy the really big jars of Adam’s Natural PB at Costco and I bring it home, dump it all out into my big mixing bowl and go at it with my electric hand mixer. We like to use a small jar for daily use, so I put some into that jar and put the large jar in the back of the fridge and use it to top up the smaller jar as it gets low. Works great!
I guess great minds think alike, Helen :) Thanks for coming by and hope to see you around!
Haven’t tried your method (don’t have a mixer). What I have found to work well is to remove the lid and microwave the jar for 35 seconds. Put the lid back on and shake the contents untill it stops splacing around in the jar. I then finish mixing with a dinner knife. You can use it immediately, but I usually then put it in the refrigerator for a few hours to cool it off. I use it daily so I then leave it at room temperature and give it a quick stir before using.
I use a Cuisinart Hand Blender. It fits right into a peanut butter jar and does a great job of mixing.
