I heart smoothies for summer. They’re a perfect way to sneak in some extra fruits and calcium. I added little wheat germ to this smoothie and you couldn’t even tell. Next time I am going to add even more wheat germ. Wheat germ is an excellent source of many vitamins and minerals: vitamin E, most of the B vitamin group, folic acid, and a number of minerals such as iron, calcium, zinc. And, vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that is important for fighting cancer and heart problems. That’s not to mention all the great antioxidants and calcium you are getting from the berries and yogurt. So, you can feel really good about making this smoothie any time you want. I loved it and so did the little guy. I am even thinking of making it into Popsicles :) Do you have any “secret ingredients” you like to add to your smoothies to up the health quotient?
A few more of the house favorite smoothies are pumpkin pie smoothie, peanut butter banana smoothie, banana mango smoothie and last (but not least!) is berry banana oatmeal smoothie.
Good Morning Smoothie (mixed berry smoothie recipe)
3/4 cup blueberries and blackberries mixed together
3/4 cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon honey (optional if your berries are tart)
1 tablespoon wheat germ
4 ice cubes
1 sliced banana (frozen)
Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth. Enjoy :)

i always put protein powder and spinach in my smoothies. they're really good!
Oh yummy! It's smoothie season at my house. I just bought a big tub of vanilla yogurt and some frozen blackberries yesterday. I usually throw in half a banana with whatever other fruit I have. I'm still looking forward to trying the oats in it. I've used the wheat germ in the past, but not for a long time. I shall throw some in this morning. Thanks for the reminder!
Chia Seed! It doesn't change the flavor that I can tell…and it adds fiber and Omega 3.
Oh yeah, and kale…
These look so yummy!! mmmmm : )
I love smoothies so much! Sometimes I add oats, fresh spinach and/or flax seed meal to mine to up the nutrients!
Yum! A great start to the day. I love the color.
Love smoothies in the morning – and always looking for new ways to do it. :) ~ Courtney
Good morning, indeed!
Yummy! The recipe looks so healthy and that's exactly what I'm looking for in summer :) I can't wait for the black and blue berries to be in season even here :) Though I know it'll be no sooner than in July :/
Just goes to show that being healthy can also taste so good.
That sounds wonderful!
We like wheat germ in our smoothies too-I sometimes add flax seed (ground) as well. Smoothies are like having dessert for breakfast- this berry one looks really good. :)

I will be making this tomorrow morning. I have everything needed-even sliced bananas in the freezer:) Thanks, Katie!
This looks delish. Awesome that you snuck the wheatgerm in there. Makes it even better!
I made this today and I loved it, Katie! I subbed half the plain yogurt(didn't have enough) with blueberry(so didn't use honey) and used only blueberries(didn't have blackberries). Also took your advice and use 2 tablesppons wheat germ. A great way to start the day!
I need to proofread…used 2 tablespoons wheat germ:)
oh no, I just put the last of my blueberries into a cake, it's in the oven now. Maybe next time I find some on offer.
YUM! I just had a smoothie for breakfast. I usually put spinach inmine, but I'm out. I do put wheat bran in it though and this time I used fresh peaches. Divine!
hmmm looks yummy
I like pretty drinks. They go down so much easier. Of course, if they are chocolate, they can be ugly.
