I don’t know about you all but around here it feels like it went straight from winter to summer. One day it was 50 and suddenly it is about 80 or 90 every day. What happened to the glorious 70′s? Well, I’m still wondering that myself. But, now that this warmer weather is here and the berries are coming into season it is the perfect time of year for making cool drinks. Smoothies are an especially great way to use up all those delicious berries that might have a bad spot or bananas past their prime. Just cut any bad places out and you’re good to go. Oh, in case you’re wondering about the oatmeal making the smoothie taste funky, you will actually not even realize it is in there. Just put the oats in the blender before you add your other ingredients and blend it until the oats form a fine powder. Nothing like sneaking in some more fiber and protein :)
For me a perfect smoothie is really thick so this recipe is for a smoothie that you could almost eat with a spoon- like ice cream. Not that I’ve ever fed this to my child calling it ice cream. He gobbled it up like it was the best treat ever :) If you don’t want yours quite that thick, just add a little more milk. And, you may want to add a tiny bit of sugar if you use berries that are not very sweet.
A few more of the house favorite smoothies are mixed berry smoothie, peanut butter banana smoothie, banana mango smoothie and last (but not least!) is pumpkin pie smoothie.
Berry Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
makes enough for 1 hungry person or 2 smaller servings
1 banana cut in slices and frozen
4-6 strawberries, cut up (freeze them if you like a really thick smoothie)
1/4 cup oats
1/2 teaspoon vanilla (try making your own homemade vanilla extract)
3/4 cup milk (more or less to suit your tastes)
Put the oats in the blender and let it run until they are ground up to be a powder. Add the remaining ingredients. Blend until smooth. You may want to add more milk to thin out the smoothie as needed. I ended up adding 1 cup of milk in all.
See you soon,

I love the addition of oatmeal, I can't wait to try this, thanks :)

This smoothie looks so good! I can't wait to try this out, though my strawberries will be ripe in July so I have to wait :D Thank you for the recipe, I bet it's delicious :)
You can send a day or two of that weather my way! I'm SO TIRED OF RAIN!In the summer, I make myself a smoothie every morning for breakfast and I've always been leery of putting oatmeal in them. You've convinced me – I'm trying it!
We are smoothie freaks here for sure! I would have never thought to put oats in a smoothie but now I am entranced with the idea…LOVE it!
I have a strawberry banana smoothie on today too — really like the idea of the oatmeal with it — gonna have to try that!
The oats are a great addition! We love smoothies around here. :)
I love adding oats to my smoothies! I just made one the other day and I poured quick oats into the milk and let it stand for about 5 minutes before blending in the rest of the ingredients. The oats softened and blended up perfectly!
This smoothie is the perfect breakfast or mini meal. Love that you added oats!
This sounds delicious! I love oatmeal, i'm sure it makes this smoothie delicious. :)
Deliciously healthy!!! Love it!
I too am wondering what happened to Spring. I wish it would stay mild for longer before it was 90 degrees every day. :<I just wanted to let you know that you are my featured commenter of the week over at my blog. Thank you so much for being a visitor and sharing your thoughts. :) Have a great week!
Mmm, healthiness never looked so good.
Yum, I love smoothies, will definitely have to try this one. I also wanted to say hello I'm your newest follower. I'd love it if you'd check out my site sometime.http://pinchofthisthatandtheother.blogspot.com/
Yummy!!! I add oatmeal to our smoothies too. Other good, easy to hide ingredients are flax, spinach, cabbage. They add great nutrition and can go unnoticed if not overdone.
Hey I host a blog hop and I'd LOVE if you came over and shared a recipe! Here's the link :) http://thesweetdetail.blogspot.com/search/label/S…
With the temperatures finally warming up I'm definitely going to be making more smoothies. This one looks perfect. Can't wait to try.
This looks great and with the oatmeal, this could be breakfast to run out the door with!!!
Oh, this looks good!I've heard of adding oatmeal to smoothies before, but had never tried it, thinking the oatmeal would, somehow, sink to the bottom and not blend in with the rest of the ingredients. So thanks for the reassurance; I'll be making this over the weekend.
I made this but instead of vanilla I used vanilla yogurt! And I’m not a fan of milk so vanilla almond milk makes this absolutely perfect!
MMM this looks delish! Adding it to the breakfast list for this week!
Hope you enjoy it~ :)
Love the addition of oats and that this is a thick one! I’ll call it a milkshake and have as an afternoon snack. Trick myself into thinking Im having “junk food”!
Sounds like a plan to me :) I love thick smoothies too!
I am a Smoothie fanatic so I must try this recipe. This is such an awesome post. I would love it if you would share this post at our WIW linky party. Hope you can join us and Happy Mother’s Day! :-)
